Skill
I have demonstrated the technique of public speaking and debating to enhance the potential skill towards my members.
I have accomplished this by...
Hosting Debate Workshops
Activities that gaged excitement yet lead to higher thinking and knowledge
Hosting Debate Workshops
At the start of the year, I had club members anonymously fil out a survey with their strengths and weaknesses. Then, in these workshops, I prioritize on finding the weaknesses each student has and working with them. I first introduce the debate of the day, videotape the entire debate, then afterward I give feedback to each student. Feedback ranges from fixing their tone of voice to changing their argument and strategy to getting what they want out of the debate.
Teaching Methods and Club Meeting Activities
By videotaping students with their permission, they were able to watch back and see what they did wrong, or what they did well. I made sure to record every person that spoke during conventions and one-day debate conferences. These errors could stem from not speaking loud enough, poor eye contact, unpreparedness, or nervousness.
To assist members in combatting these issues, I held more informal and formal debate sessions during club meetings on Monday's, mimicking the ones on conventions. This enabled students, in future conventions and one-day events, to become more comfortable, and in the end, receive more gavels and awards for their speeches.
